Check this site out for great Atkins and lowcarb support.

You will get much better info from there and first hand accounts from people that chose the way of life than you will from uninformed people on here.

Yes, I have been on it several times. You do lose weight and you lose it fast. I read the same article you did. The problem with it is that it is hard to stick to because it becomes boring really fast. You’d think eating all that steak and hamburger, fried chicken, eggs, and bacon would be great fun, but when that’s about all you get besides a small salad a couple times a day, it gets old really fast. If you can stick with it, more power to you!

I haven’t used it, but I know that others have used it with good results.

Very good diet, really works, VERY hard to stick to forever. You will lose weight, and you will gain it back because it’s so hard to stick to the diet.

There are a lot of misconceptions about it, though. Buy the book so you’ll understand completely. There is still a lot of info in it I found really helpful even though the diet is too hard to stay with.

Actually, I think the study showed that women lost more weight and were overall healthier on Atkins than on other popular diets. The study was done on normally healthy but overweight women in their early 40s. They not only lost more weight than on other diets but their bad cholesteral went down, good cholesteral came up, and their blood pressure improved.

I have used the diet with good effects. If you look around and are willing to pay a bit more, there are still lo and no-carb products on the market that taste pretty good. Once you hit the weight you want, you can slowly add carbs back. As long as you’re in ketosis you’re okay.

I lost 130 lbs. while on the Atkin’s Diet & I’m still on it only it’s modified to where I am able to maintain my weight loss. I got the book & did not read it from front to back. I read just enough to get me started & I followed it faithfully. The more weight I lost, the more I read Dr. Atkin’s book. I was never hungry, which really impressed me & I drank the water too, as that’s very important also in helping to lose weight. I walked daily & when the weather was inclement, I walked on my treadmill. I noticed a difference in my mobility within my first week on the Atkin’s Diet. I have arthritis in my knees, & all of a sudden, I could get up out of a chair without being in so much pain. I started losing weight right away & in no time at all, I was at my first goal. Then I set a second goal for myself & reached that as well. Prior to starting on the Atkin’s Diet, I saw my doctor, got his blessings to use that weight loss plan, & the rest is history. I saw my doctor from time to time to report my success & get my blood pressure taken. I was finally able to get weaned off the BP medication, for the first time in many years. What a sweet victory that was!!! A year before I began the Atkin’s Diet, I cut out all of the "whites" in my diet (flour, rice, bread, sugar) & that alone got the weight loss ball rolling. I was subjected to negative comments from family & friend’s about being on the Atkin’s Diet, but they soon saw my weight loss, & their remarks stopped.

I read that story, too…but I have also read the opposite. I myself have tried Atkins, and I did lose weight. I felt like crap and found it hard to stick with. It didn’t fit with my lifestyle. I do think it can be a healthy eating plan, but for me, it just wasn’t practical. However, if your life and lifestyle allows you to only eat high-protein foods, then give it a try. I do know that still do it successfully, and they look great and you can tell they feel great.
