Why isn't the Atkins Diet working for me? Tips?

I’ve been doing the Atkins diet for four days and I haven’t lost any weight. I’m in college so I have to eat at the dining hall (obviously not many options there), but I thought I’d been doing well. I always have a salad with lots of veggies for lunch and dinner and then I usually have either chicken breast or some type of beef (lately it’s been flame-broiled hamburger patties). What am I doing wrong and are there any tips anyone has?!

I can tell you EXACTLY why the atkins diet isn’t working for you!!! It has only been four days!!!! You aren’t even supposed to weigh yourself until after the initial two weeks. Sometimes I don’t even notice a weight loss until 3-4 days later bc it takes my body that long to register it. You are not doing anything wrong. Just be sure you are drinking a lot of water, and wait a few days to weight yourself. When you do, make sure you weigh yourself at eXACTLY the same time each day and in the same thing. Your body can fluctuate up to 7 lbs each day. I always weigh myself in the morning before my shower. Come back in a week and tell me you haven’t lost anything. I would be astonished.

In the Induction phase, a salad and the amount of vegies you are having may exceed the 20 g of carbs allowed. If you take in too much carb, you don’t go into ketosis. Also – you have to drink a LOT of water.

1. Get some urine ketone test strips. That’s the only way to know if you’ve gone into ketosis and are consuming the proper amt of carbs

2. Cut your current carb intake in half – and try to figure out how you can measure what you are eating.

3. What the book says is after 2 weeks of strict observance if you are still not going into ketosis, stop all carbs and increase fat intake with your protein.

It did not work well for me and I can’t eat that heavy especially first thing in the morning – I am generally more comfortable with lighter foods for breakfast.

The Zone might be a better option for you.

With any form of diet you must give it a little time for your body to ajust and then you should check for results. Give it some time…
